MISS WORLD REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE CARIBBEAN WHO STAND OUT

Puerto Rico's Yara Lasanta Santiago made the Caribbean island and Caribbean people proud when she won the Miss World Beach Beauty title last week.  The win fast-tracked her to the top 25 in the Miss World Final on Saturday, October 30th in Sanya, China.

Six other Miss World contestants out of the 15 or so representing Caribbean islands stand out, namely Cristin Joy Alexander of the Cayman Islands, Carolyn Whitney Carter of the US Virgin Islands,  Tully Fremcourt of Martinique, Aiasha Gustave of St. Lucia, Fatisha Imo of St. Kitts & Nevis and Aletha Shepherd of Guyana.

Miss World Beach Beauty Contest - October 19th, 2010

Miss World Martinique was the only Caribbean beauty queen to make it into the top 20 with Miss World Puerto Rico.  The contestants who placed were: (1) Puerto Rico, (2) USA, (3) Norway, (4) China and (5) French Polynesia.

Miss World Sportswoman Contest - October 22nd, 2010

Martinique placed in the top 20 again, this time with the Cayman Islands, Guyana, St. Kitts & Nevis and the US Virgin Islands. 

Miss World St. Kitts & Nevis Fatisha Imo and Miss World US Virgin Islands Carolyn Whitney Carter were both members of the winning sports team, with Ms. Carter winning the third swimming heat. 

Martinique and Guyana were on the team that placed second and third, respectively.

While Miss World Cayman Islands Cristin Joy Alexander was on the team that placed fourth (there were four teams of five Miss World contestants), she won the second swimming heat.  

The contestants who placed were: (1) Northern Ireland, (2) Slovakia and (3) Norway.

This was the moment for 17-year-old Miss World St. Lucia Aiasha Gustave to shine.  She was the only Caribbean representative to make it into the top 20.

The contestants who placed were: (1) Norway, (2) Russia and (3) USA.  Miss World French Polynesia won the designer dress award.

Having landed in the top 20 two out of three times, Miss World Martinique Tully Fremcourt is going into the October 30th Miss World Final at an advantage.
